P1 Delight In their Outdoor Classroom

5th May 2026

Today P1 were fully engaged in hands-on play based learning outdoors. They followed recipe instructions to make some dirt pizza and moth soup. In the water tray they investigated bamboo water channelling pipes to get Incy Wincy down the drain pipe which was lots of fun! In the gravel pit they designed plans to build a brick enclosure for three naughty spiders. Some children were bug explorers and enjoyed a minibeast hunt, reporting that lots of woodlice live beneath the logs and leaves. As the class conclude their growing theme P1 replanted spring onion plants and carrots which had been regrown from waste and made cherry trees from twigs and clay. Independently some children chose to record some number sums and sequence the alphabet stones.  A busy and really enjoyable morning where children displayed a wonder for their natural world and enhanced curiosity for learning.
