Veterinary Surgery

10th Mar 2026
Very many thanks to Mrs Laverty who came into Nursery to talk about her job working night shifts at a veterinary surgery. We learned about some of the important jobs she has to do and the special equipment she uses. We were all trainee vets learning how to draw blood with syringes, apply bandages, analyse urine samples, stitch wounds and give medicine! We also tried on some scrubs and protective wear for when we need to help in the operating theatre. Mrs Laverty showed us how to scan for a microchip, with a long number appearing when the scanner reads the chip. This helps ensure animals that go missing can be returned to their owners. We met Basil who was rescued by Mrs Laverty’s vets who helped him get better. We really appreciate Mrs Laverty giving of her time and for all the resources she brought and the fun activities she planned, as well as the bag of treats for the children.
